Miss Reddick!

Miss Reddick is my teacher candidate in our grade 5/6 class. Her favourite colours are yellow and purple. She is amazing and she makes me smile. I think she makes everybody smile.  When she was gone I missed her a lot she couldn’t  stay because she has school. She’s 22 years old and still goes to school! Miss Reddick is really good at soccer, volley ball, etc. Her favorite  food is pulled pork and her favourite season is winter because she can skate and can play hockey. All you guys, sorry but she’s taken and she is very funny and is so awesome.

First Nations People

First Nations are first peoples on earth.
Now we don’t call them natives.

They hunt all game and sometimes hunt buffalo.
They use a spoke for fishing and they use a
torch at night.
They also use a trap to hunt seals.
They use buffalo skin for teepees.

They play lacrosse.

The War Museum

On November 4th our class went to the war museum in Ottawa.  When we got to the museum we went inside and got in our groups. We went off in groups to see stuff that was in the museum. After we looked around for a while we went to the cafeteria for something to eat. After we ate we looked around some more. We got back on the bus and IT WOULDN'T START!!!! So we went back in the museum and looked around, went to the gift shop. The museum was closing in a couple min. so we went outside to play then the teacher called me over to talk about me going back to the school with Logan, Owen, Warren  and Mackenzie so we could get home. The teachers were sending kids home with some of the parents that drove to the field trip. When we were on the way back to school the bus was still at the museum and we were in Westport.

The bus broke down in Ottawa!

We went to the War Museum in Ottawa and we had fun looking at all the tanks and weapons they used in WW1 and WW11.  After we were done looking, we went to the bus and it did not start!  It was a terrible mistake!  We went back inside the museum to look at more artifacts and the Museum was going to close the doors in twenty minutes so we waited inside the two doors and had a lot if fun and we when outside and play in the lights that made a big shadow on the wall.  We were supposed to get to the school at six pm but we got to the school at nine pm but it was fun to hangout with all my friends in till we got back at nine pm.  And that's what happened in Ottawa.and I want to go again and next time I want the same thing to happen.

Aboriginal Art

In class we had an Aboriginal artist named Mr. Piribauer that talked to the class about Aboriginal art.  He talked about the different kinds of brushes.  Some examples are fine tip brush and fan brush.  He said he will varnish our paintings so the colour stands out.  He told the class not to use too many colours because it is confusing.  I decided to pick a hawk because it had lots of detail and I wanted a challenge.  Some of the colours I picked are black, dark red, yellow, and blue.  He talked about Aboriginal art because the grade 6's are studying aboriginal people.  I had fun because we got to paint which I re3ally enjoy.  The hawk also challenged my painting skills.

Bus Break Down ):

On November 4th we went on a field trip to the War museum and we were supposed to go to the Museum of Civilization but our BUS BROKE DOWN!!!!!

IT WAS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT.

First thing we had to do was wait and wait and wait and wait. It was so boring we didn’t know when it was going to be fixed. It felt like forever for another bus to come, it took like three and a half hours for him to come.  It was so coooooold we could not stand it.  First we just had to play in this little field for about 20mins.  Then some of us went back in and some stayed out with Ms. de Groot.  Then finally we went back to tour the museum in groups.  When we got back to meet up at 4:30 some kids left with parents so they could get home earlier but some people got to stay later and got very tired.  When we were waiting for another bus we were playing in spot lights and made lots of cool shadows in the dark.  Then the bus finally got there to pick us up.  And that was our awesome exiting field trip I want to go again (:

Ps. we loved it!

The Empathy Assembly

On Friday , November, 29 2013 we had a empathy assembly.  And Miss de Groot’s class put it all together with Miss Sousa.  And it was awesome.  And in are class we are a group working class so everyone did some thing in it or did some thing for it.  And it was the same day as pj day so the whole class that talked in it was talking in front of the school in pj’s at the assembly.  At the assembly we talked about bullies  and that no one should not be a bystander so once we were done talking about not being a bystander we told everyone if you see bullying happen to go over and try to stop it.  And five people did a game.  That said some thing on it then after we were done all the student’s that had happened to them then they would stand and look around with out talking and see all the people that have something incoming.

And some people from the OPP came and the mayor came and everyone got a wits or leads sticker badge.

Aboriginal Art

On October 28 our class had a special guest.  His name was... Mr. Piribauer.   He was a retired art teacher.  Since we were learning about the native peoples our teacher Ms. de Groot invited this amazing art teacher Mr. Piribauer.  He first told us to pick a picture THEN we got to trace the picture! But that wasn`t  the best part... the best part was...painting!  It was so fun.  If you want to see more awesomeness come to Mrs. de Groots class a.k.a  Perth Road Public School.

JAN HILL VISITS OUR CLASSROOM

On September 28, Jan Hill came to talk to us about first nations tribes and how they live!  (she also talked about medicine!)  She told us ingredients to medicines that can heal a person like sore throats and headaches!  She also showed us sacred tobacco!  (Looked like plain leafs.)  She handed out bags of all sorts of stuff for us to smell and feel!

She told us about a game where you bring your most precious item and you had to win it back or you lose that item.  she told us a story about a little girl in her   clan bringing her stuffed animal called woof woof, the little girl lost the game and was sad that she lost woof woof, Jan told us, BUT they told the little girl that she will be reunited with woof woof in the sky world!  (They gave back woof woof because they felt sad for her… wait, that’s emphathy!)  that’s almost everything she told us about I learned about almost everything in the clan/tribe!  I would like Jan hill to come back some day and tell us more!  Overall I learned a lot!

Wahonise, There was a clan mother

On Thursday, November 28, Jan Hill came to our school to teach us about Aboriginal life nowadays and Wahonise (a long time ago).   Jan told us that she was part of the Mohawk tribe and she also told us that she was the clan mother of the turtle clan.  Being a clan mother means you take care of everyone in your clan.  For example, if someone is sick, Jan will take care of that person’s kids. Being a clan mother is a really important job.

Jan had a huge basket and she pulled out some medicines.  She showed us sage, sacred tobacco, sweet grass and white cedar.  I learned that there are two kinds of sage: women’s sage and men’s sage.   I also learned about something called smudging.  To smudge you take sweet grass which is braided and you set the tip on fire.  Then you put out the fire but you keep the smoke on the sweet grass.  You take the sweet grass and wash yourself with it.

I learned a lot of cool things and I would love for Jan Hill to come again!
