Hockey Players with Growth Mindsets

Chad Duchesne and Jared Steege, Kingston Frontenacs

What we learned when they visited our classroom...

Fin: They use angles to play hockey.

Neko: Chad has a fake tooth and he wasn't wearing it.

Adam: They have to know where to shoot the puck so they know where to pass it to get into the net. They have to use MATH!

Lily: Chad lives in Inverary.

Trent: Jared used to live in Doug Gilmore's house.

Ethan: They persevere! I bet they were tired walking the halls but they still keep going to the classes and talking to students. Thank you!

Peyton: They are studying financial planning online at Queen's.

Morgan: Jared is from a very small town north of Pembroke called Cobden.

Max: Even if you're mad at the referees, don't call them zebras!

Leland: There is math in hockey.

Julie: They move around a lot, go to a lot of tournaments and they have to go to school online.

Ryan: I learned to never give up!

Kaidy: Melissa is their media relations contact and she told us that she passes out t-shirts at the games.

Alexis: It was pretty cool that they both signed my iPod case. They use math when playing hockey because you can't just skate down the ice and take a random shot and expect to get it in. You have to think about how big the net is, where you're shooting from and the angle of attack.

Shamus: They get in fights in hockey but only to protect themselves and their friends.

Ashley A: Jared lives away from his family.

Dani: Chad is number 4.

Nick: Jared is number 17.

Stella: Many classmates got their autograph.

Kennedy: They were born in 1995 and 1996 so they are both 20 years old.

Olivia: Jared said he couldn't remember the last time he took a slapshot. He also shares his birthday with me.

Ashley K: Chad was chosen for the team in the 13th round of draft picks. This taught him not to give up! (He had a growth mindset!)
